Let’s Make...
My Philosophy of Practice
I want to offer authentic, accessible, creative experiences into craft, art, history and cultural production.*authentic* refers to valuing expertise that comes in the form of highly specialised skills and knowledge as an important starting point
*accessible* acknowledges the need to dismantle that notion of expertise and expand the conversation around who creates it and who it belongs to
I believe that everyone has the right to access skills and expertise in a way that suits them, and that we each have something to contribute to conversations around creativity and cultural knowledge.
I do this through an informal, relaxed and flexible approach - creating environments for creativity and personal expression with outcomes that allow for growth and a redistribution of ‘expertise’
My Work is underpinned by my belief that
- This can be a process that allows people to develop confidence in themselves and their ideas
- This can allow people to build connections with others – between individuals and across groups/society
- Building confidence in creativity allows for mental, social and emotional development
- Developing this confidence allows people to become directors of their own learning
- Personal growth is the best benchmark of success
- This approach can be applied as a leader to nurture and develop creative teams in cultural settings
